However, retailers of jigsaw puzzles get a higher profit from wooden jigsaw puzzles then cardboard ones and therefore try to promote wood puzzle more. The Golden Age of jigsaw puzzle came in the 1920's, when jigsaw puzzle pictures reflected sentimental scenes. One strategy was to make cardboard jigsaw puzzle more difficult. Another was to use jigsaw puzzle for advertising or to make jigsaw puzzle as gifts. There were even programs that offered a weekly jigsaw puzzle contest. In the depression jigsaw puzzle sold well. For many the weekly jigsaw puzzle constitutes a solitary or group activity. For others a jigsaw puzzle is recyclable, one could break the jigsaw puzzle up once it was completed, then pass the jigsaw puzzle to another family member. Jigsaw puzzle enthusiasts discovered that working a jigsaw puzzle was a great way to reduce stress. Over the years the popularity of jigsaw puzzles has waxed and waned.
